PLI Scheme for Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery

On May 12, 2021, the proposal for implementation of PLI Scheme ‘National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage’ (NPACC) was approved by India’s central cabinet. The government has earmarked an outlay of INR 18,000 crore (US$2.49 billion) towards the scheme which intends to establish local manufacturing capacity of 50GWh of ACC and 5GWh of Niche ACC capacity. Department of Heavy Industries and NITI Aayog are the main implementing agencies for the scheme. ACC battery manufacturers will be selected through a competitive and transparent bidding process. The selected beneficiaries will have to set up the manufacturing facility within two years and the incentives will be disbursed over a period of five years (from time of commissioning of the manufacturing facility).
