All types of EV chargers available in India can be broadly categorized into 2 – AC Chargers and DC Chargers. These chargers differ in the amount of power the require, installation infrastructure, cost and the time that they take to charge a vehicle. DC chargers directly supply DC power from EVSE to the EVs, while the onboard charger on a vehicle converts the AC power received from AC charger to DC power which is then fed into the EV battery. This makes DC charging faster than AC charging. However, AC chargers are wall mounted and require lesser space as compared to the plinth mounted (on ground) DC chargers.
